Charlotte morning radio hosts Ace & TJ provide entertainment each morning to multitudes of listeners. But once a year, they shift their focus and put smiles on the faces of terminally ill or chronically disabled children and their families.
Since 2000, Ace & TJ's Grin Kids has taken more than 400 terminally ill or chronically disabled children and their families on an all-expense paid trip to Disney World. An experience that otherwise could not have happened for these deserving families.
Each year the organization charters an airplane fly Grin Kids and families to Orlando so everyone can travel together.
Last year was Ace & TJ's Grin Kids first time participating in #GivingTuesdayCLT and their goal was to fill the plane! “Our airline costs rose almost $20,000 between 2016 and 2017,” Lizz Melott, Ace & TJ's Grin Kids director of philanthropic giving said. “We were able to make up $12,000 of that deficit. How amazing is that?”
Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids had their big trip to Disney World last week where memories were made for many children and their families.
“Thanks to the funding of #GivingTuesdayCLT we were able to fill 23 percent of the seats on our plane for this year's trip,” Ace said. “It's easy to see how impactful #GivingTuesdayCLT is to Ace & TJ's Grin Kids.”
“We meet so many people in Charlotte that stop us and tell us stories of how they have a family member, or know someone, that were one of our Grin Kids and how much that meant to them,” Mellott said. “This year, our goal for #GivingTuesdayCLT this year is to once again Fill our Plane for 2018!”
“We are honored to be a part of something so spectacular,” TJ said. “#GivingTuesdayCLT has brought immense happiness to the wonderful families of Ace & TJ's Grin Kids.”
