Board Members & Board Committees

Supportive Housing Communities (SHC), is in search of volunteers to serve on our
Board of Directors and/or Board Committees. The mission of Supportive Housing
Communities is to provide affordable housing to alleviate homelessness and
human suffering.

Our legacy in Charlotte began when two Tryon Street churches (St. Peter Catholic Church and St.
Peter’s Episcopal) teamed up to care for the growing homeless community who were living on
their street. Together, they formed St. Peter’s Homes in 1993–which, nearly two decades later,
was renamed Supportive Housing Communities.

Our service delivery model includes supportive housing designed for chronically homeless
individuals in recovery from addiction or suffering with a disability. We own and operate two
supportive housing properties - - McCreesh Place and St. John’s Place. A member of the Housing
First Charlotte-Mecklenburg Partnership, we also manage a Scattered-Site program that places
chronically homeless individuals and families in many different privately-owned rental units
“scattered” throughout Charlotte. We also provide street outreach to adults living in areas not
meant for human habitation. We are proud to share that 97% of our housed residents remained
in stable housing during FY 2019-2020!

Meetings are currently held monthly, and each board member is asked to serve on at least one
committee. Board members are expected to be active participants in fundraising, community
engagement, and mission actualization. If you want to make a difference, have a heart and
passion for ending homelessness, SHC would like to talk with you!
