Court Watch Training

The daily and visible presence of court watchers loudly broadcasts to criminal justice professionals that they are being watched and that Charlotteans demand that their courts are accountable, transparent, and just.

The purpose is to:

- To empower individuals through legal education to demand transparency and accountability of public officials
- To increase public confidence in the Mecklenburg County criminal courts
- To increase criminal justice efficiency
- To examine aggregate trends in the Mecklenburg County criminal courts
- To expand our volunteer base to reflect the diversity of all Charlotte communities
- To act as an objective agent to institute best practices in criminal justice

On March 26 from 6:30pm – 7:30pm YWCA and ACLU of North Carolina will be having a court watch training. The training will cover briefly what is bail and what the problem with it is and why we are court watching to ensure that everyone has a baseline understanding of the issues. We will then just talk about the role and how we envision the data collected being used.

This training will take place at YWCA Central Carolinas. The event is free and light refreshments will be served, please register in advance.
