NATURAL HISTORY OF THE PIEDMONT, DR. STEVEN FIELDS

The Carolina Piedmont Through Time: The 600 million year history of our region Piedmont region is a story of fiery volcanoes, continental collisions, and fossils that document the rise and fall of a myriad of incredible creatures. The landscape we see today is a single snapshot in a saga of ongoing change. Our brief time here does not convey the true wonder of the Carolina Piedmont. This presentation will include hands-on specimens from educational collections at the Museum of York County.

Participants will also have a chance to purchase a copy of In Your Nature: Ponderings of a Carolina Piedmont Naturalist by Dr. Steve Fields. The book is $18.00 (cash or check only – checks made out to CHM). All proceeds go to Culture and Heritage Museums.

Dr. Fields is curator of natural history for the Culture and Heritage Museums of York County, where he has worked since 1986.

He is also adjunct faculty in the Biology Department at Winthrop University, where he has served as an instructor since 1997, and York Technical College, where he has taught online courses since 2013.

Dr. Fields earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in biology from Winthrop University and a Ph.D. in integrative biology from the University of South Carolina.
