What We Do

AFS's mission is to create a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership.

A leader in intercultural learning, AFS offers international exchange programs in more than 40 countries around the world. We’ve been exchanging students throughout the world for more than 70 years. That’s seven decades of history and experience in international education with an exemplary record of safety, security, and service to students, parents, and educators.

AFS of Greater Charlotte hosts over a dozen students across CMS, and sends at least one student abroad, every year.

Interesting Info

AFS has 40,000 volunteers globally. That's the second largest volunteer organization in the world.
AFS students report they are more comfortable interacting with other cultures. They improve skills like leadership, adaptability, and communication.
AFS's mission stems from its original volunteer involvement in WWI and WWII - to create peace by cultural understanding, one person at a time.
