What We Do
Our Mission: To be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. Our mission drives everything we do. We are: - Working to end obesity: NC Advocacy priority includes the adoption of city-wide food and beverage vending and service standards consistent with AHA guidelines and the city of Charlotte. - Working to help control risk factors: In Charlotte, we are working to secure 1,000 pledges from area residents to reduce their sodium intake. - Equipping you to eat healthier: In 2014, our national Eating Healthy day materials were used in 180 companies, places of worship, organizations and families to raise awareness and change behaviors. - Helping to end childhood obesity: In 2014, 3,130 students participated in the NFL Play60 program in Charlotte. - Making breakthroughs: In 2012, a law was passed requiring all high school students in NC be trained in CPR before they graduate.
AHA advocacy efforts helped pass CPR in Schools as a graduation requirement for all seniors in North Carolina public schools..
In 2018, 18,266 NC residents died from heart disease. Another 4,940 in NC died from stroke.
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined.
