What We Do
BellXcel (formerly BELL, Building Educated Leaders for Life) exists to transform the academic achievements, self-confidence and life trajectories of children living in under-resourced communities. We pursue our mission by collaborating with schools, school districts and community partners to provide high-quality summer and after-school learning experiences at no cost to families. Because we believe in the tremendous potential of all children to excel, we recognize them as scholars.
BellXcel is a national non-profit, headquartered in Boston. Our presence in the Carolinas has grown from a single middle-school site in Charlotte in 2009, to serving hundreds of scholars each year through partnerships in both North and South Carolina. Rather than suffering from the “summer learning slide” common to low-income students, BellXcel scholars make academic gains in reading and math that enable them to return to school in the fall more confident and able to succeed. Parents overwhelmingly report that they are more involved in their scholar’s education through the BellXcel program, while the majority of teachers reported an increase in scholars’ self-confidence.
