What We Do
B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) is a free hands-on defensive driving program for teens 15-19 years of age. The curriculum includes an array of defensive driving techniques, including crash avoidance, distracted driving, drop wheel/off road recovery, panic stops as well as car control and recovery. By training and educating teenage drivers and their parents, the program aims to promote safe driving in an attempt to prevent injuries and save lives. The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was founded by NHRA Top Fuel drag racer Doug Herbert in memory of his sons, Jon and James, who were tragically killed in a car crash on Jan. 26, 2008.
For Giving Tuesday CLT 2017, B.R.A.K.E.S. has partnered with another local non-profit, B.T.E.P (Bringing Together Extraordinary People), for what we are calling our #BResponsible Program in 2018. B.T.E.P and B.R.A.K.E.S. saw a need to provide a unique experience to learn defensive driving skills, while establishing cross cultural relationships beyond the economic and social strata of our charities constituents. The under-served community now has a chance to get behind the wheel at zMax Dragway to learn our safe driving curriculum, while serving as a bridge between communities that normally do not intersect.
