What We Do

An interfaith organization dedicated to bringing the community together to end homelessness—one life at a time.

Our work begins by offering basic stability through shelter and supportive services. This sets the stage for our deeper program services, which focus on increasing a guest's income and identifying housing; two sides of the same coin of ending homelessness.

We are excited that Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte have officially merged. You will continue to see our identities separate or co-branded until a final identity for our new organization is rolled out in late 2019.

Interesting Info

We originally opened in 1981 as an emergency winter shelter after three men tragically died as a result of winter conditions.
When guests with income first enter shelter, they are only earning an average of $759/month. The average rent in Charlotte is now $1,175/month.
Of the people we have housed within the last two years, 74% retain their housing.
