Board of Directors Public Relations Officer

The public relations officer is responsible for the oversight of the reputation of the organization. You'll advise upon any press releases, press inquiries, and sometimes help manage crises. Your job could include: approving leaflets, brochures, newsletters, and website and social media content (or approval of policies that outline the criteria for publicly accessible communication). You will be expected to update the Board of Directors with any changes, issues, or requests related to public relations. The Public Relations Officer is a voting member of the board of directors. Therefore, this position requires the officer to attend 3/4 meetings annually. Public Relations Officer: As a non-profit organization the reputation we carry can be just as important as the work we do. The agency's public image will be a key determining factor in future funding opportunities and client referrals. The role of the Public Relations Officer is tied to the overall success of the agency. Responsibilities: Attends and participates in board meetings Advocates for the organization’s mission Monitors and oversees the enhancement of the organization’s public image. Advise upon any press releases, and press inquiries, and sometimes help manage media crises. Advises staff on cultivating and maintaining relationships with media and influential professionals Structures policy and guidelines for media interaction, government meetings, and potential funding sources. Recommends changes to policy or procedures that may negatively impact the agency’s image Monitors agency achievements and contributions to the public good Serve on committees to organize PR events to increase awareness of the agency Ensure brand consistency in all advertising efforts Remain updated on professional knowledge and best practices of public relations. Requirements: Proven media or public relations experience Expertise in different social networks, including Facebook and Instagram Creative abilities Ability to work with a team Excellent written and verbal communication skills
