Pack and Sort Food

We have volunteer opportunities in our warehouse that include packing and sorting donated produce as well as at off-site events. Off-site events include Mobile Food Pantries where you can hand out food to families in need and special events.

98,000 volunteers, which equates to 278,000 hours per year, make it possible for SHMETROLINA to operate. NC Independent Sector for nonprofits calculates volunteer time at $22.99 per hour which equates to more than 6.4 million dollars in savings! Whether you can volunteer once a week, once a month or once a year; individually or with a group of 2 to 60; whatever your commitment, every hour of assistance helps us ensure our hungry neighbors will have food.

- hosting smaller volunteer groups for each shift and spreading them throughout the building – no more than 10 in each group
- increased cleaning/sanitizing of our facility after each volunteer shift
- consistent handwashing
- social distancing
- also eliminating handshakes and hugs … sorry. Elbow bumps are welcome!
