YWCA Central Carolinas

Event:
Stand Against Racism Event (Virtual Options)
Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. This campaign is one part of YWCA’s larger national strategy to fulfill our mission of eliminating racism. We are on a mission to eliminate racism, and that starts by calling attention to it. This is vital now more than ever with the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affecting communities of color, showing the racial disparities at work today. This year’s event will be primarily virtual due to social distancing measures, but you can still add your voice! YWCA will be hosting a virtual forum on Thursday, June 25 and will be having a sidewalk Stand on Friday, June 26. See how you can take a stand and sign up for one of our events today! Wherever you are, you can host a virtual Stand on Friday, June 26! What does a virtual Stand look like? • Holding up signs in front of your organization, while social distancing, that asks passersby to honk for “racial justice,” “if they will vote,” “want equity for all,” etc. • Holding up signs in your neighborhood that share racial and social equity statistics • Posting on social media how you or your organization will combat racism using the SAR hashtags (#StandCLT, #StandAgainstRacism, #SAR2020) • Posting on social media how COVID-19 has impacted you or your organization as well as the people you serve • Sharing YWCA’s recommended reading and terms with friends, family and coworkers to expand knowledge and awareness on racial and social justice issues • Posting a video on your social media sharing how you take a stand against racism in your every day life and use the SAR hashtags (#StandCLT, #StandAgainstRacism, #SAR2020) • Wearing orange on Friday, June 26 to show support for YWCA Central Carolinas and our Racial Justice & Advocacy work • Purchasing a 2019 Stand Against Racism shirt (your purchase will support YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women. After submitting your information, a YWCA associate will contact you for payment details) • June 25 will mark 1 month after Mr. Floyd’s death. We will ask individuals to take a moment of silence for 9 minutes for George Floyd. To bring it full circle, we will add a few activities that people do in 9 minutes to understand how long this kneel on someone’s neck. The options are limitless! Will you be joining us? For any companies that plan to participate, please complete the registration form by June 10.
