#52tuesdays: Urban League of Central Carolinas

Urban League of Central Carolinas (ULCC) empowers the community to attain financial stability and social justice in a global economy through education, training and placement.

Organized in 1978, ULCC’s offers a range of programs to benefit anyone in need of education, skills training, career development, employment services, and youth programs. ULCC also serves persons from all economic levels - from area professionals to those living within designated “fragile” and “at-risk” neighborhoods.

During #GivingTuesdayCLT, ULCC was in need of new (or new to them) chairs for its computer lab, which serves as a hub for its career training and job placement services. The chairs they had were well worn and breaking down. Clients at ULCC need to focus on their training and not fidgeting in chairs that don’t adjust.

As luck would have it, GMR Marketing had a roomful of chairs they were looking to donate.

“Each month at GMR, we choose a local charitable cause to support, which connected us with SHARE Charlotte in the past,” said Jimmy Bruns, Senior Vice President of Client Consulting and Services at GMR Marketing. “When we had some office chairs that we didn’t need anymore, we wanted to make sure they went to an organization who needed them, and SHARE Charlotte was able to put us in touch with Urban League, so we were happy to see them find a good home.”

"Thanks to GMR's generous donation our job readiness clients are sitting in style and ready to learn,” said Maya Norvel, Director of Marketing and Communications for ULCC.
