(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) – Today, local nonprofit SHARE Charlotte announced the total value of donations raised during its 4th annual #GivingTuesdayCLT giving campaign: $7 million! The event took place at Camp North End where Jamie McDonald from the national #GivingTuesday team, SHARE Founder and Executive Director Kelly Brooks and Meredith Dolhare of RunningWorks spoke of their unique perspectives on the campaign. Spoken word artist, Hannah Hasan, was also on hand to perform her “Charlotte Stronger” poem.
“Charlotte has become a community that is admired by #GivingTuesday cities around the country. Beyond the giving that SHARE Charlotte reported with its partners, more than $15 million was given in Charlotte online, offline, and through corporate grants,” said Jamie McDonald, leader of community campaign partnerships for #GivingTuesday. “It’s a testament to the generosity of Charlotteans across the board. Without a doubt, whether they gave to a SHARE partner or not, they were inspired by #GivingTuesday and #GivingTuesdayCLT.”
For two weeks, #GivingTuesdayCLT (Nov. 14 - 28), presented by Wells Fargo, encouraged the Charlotte community to give, in whatever way they can, to local nonprofits. This year #GivingTuesdayCLT inspired 14,000 donors (21% of them new!), 117 local businesses and 235 nonprofits (40% new to the campaign) to collaborate with one simple goal: make Charlotte stronger.
“What I love about this movement is it puts the power in the hands of the everyday Charlottean to make the impact they want to have,” says Kelly Brooks, Founder of SHARE Charlotte. “We are trying to raise generosity as a core value of our city, on #GivingTuesday and every day.”
Outstanding #GivingTuesdayCLT Gifts and Accomplishments: Presenting sponsor Wells Fargo engaged all of its Charlotte branches to give $89,000 to 89 different nonprofits 22 crowdfunders led individual fundraisers and raised $8,623 for campaign nonprofits RunningWorks surpassed its first-year campaign goal, raising $32,410 which will provide bus passes for 32 team members for one year Bottlecap Group (Ink n Ivy, Hot Taco, Brazwells, Whiskey Warehouse, All American Pub, Jack’s Corner Tap, Slate Charlotte and Wu’s Cajun Seafood) raised $3,100 for the #GivingTuesdayCLT General Fund Shining Hope Farms raised $26,000 toward the purchase of two horses for their equine therapy programs

For our community to prosper, we all must prosper.”
"We were searching for a way to have our nine restaurants more involved in local Charlotte philanthropy,” said Bottle Cap Group’s Marketing Manager, Morgan Conroy. “Each General Manager chose a nonprofit that is meaningful to their staff and donated a percentage of sales to them. We were proud to be a part of this great community-wide effort!"
While the donations raised during the campaign are certainly monumental, SHARE encourages the community to give year round. Nonprofits always need volunteers, financial support and love from the community in order to keep doing their great work.
