McLeod Centers for Wellbeing: Healing the Whole Person

Did you know that substance use can cause changes in a person’s brain, making them more likely to develop a mental health disorder?

This month’s #SpotlightOnCLT Mental Health is presented by McLeod Centers for Wellbeing - a nonprofit substance use care program that’s committed to meaningful change rooted in dignity and respect. Since many individuals struggle with both substance use and mental health disorders, McLeod Centers is joining us to bring awareness to this important topic - and to remind our community that help is available, even for complex situations.

"We're excited to help shine a light on mental health resources in Charlotte because so many in our community are struggling and don’t know all the resources available to support them.” - Katherine Long, Chief Development Officer.

McLeod Centers offers intensive outpatient programs, justice services, a 30-bed residential center with associated wrap-around services in Charlotte and eight medication-assisted treatment (MAT) programs across North Carolina. Across every program is a focus on addressing the emotional and psychological roots that often fuel substance use in the first place. This looks like individual and group counseling, yoga and even therapy dog cuddles.

Last year alone, McLeod Centers provided services to more than 5,500 individuals - and they accept anyone seeking treatment, no matter their financial situation and ability to pay.

Community support makes this treatment possible. Here are three ways you can make a difference:

  • Donate: Learn how gifts from $25 to $10,000 allow McLeod Centers to provide much-needed services to Neighbors seeking treatment and hope.
  • Shop Their Amazon Wish List: From hygiene items to board games to campus furniture, these items help make a home for residents in treatment.
  • Volunteer in their Clothing Closet: Help sort donations available to inpatient residents.

Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders are diseases, not identities. We’re thankful that McLeod Centers for Wellbeing exists as a resource in our community to meet people where they are and walk with them toward lasting wellness.

If you or someone you love is struggling with substance use challenges, McLeod Centers for Wellbeing is here to help. You are not alone.
