In 2016, Mecklenburg County reported 66,454 people with disabilities. In October SHARE Charlotte’s Spotlight Series focuses on local organizations providing support, care, education and advocacy for our neighbors living with disabilities. See who they are and find ways to help. #CelebrateAbilities

Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids
Dedicated to enriching the lives of terminally ill or chronically disabled children. 

Allegro Foundation
Combines movement instruction with educational and medical expertise, creating new techniques to teach children with disabilities and enhance their quality of life.

Best Buddies International - North Carolina
Dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). 

Camp Blue Skies
Provides 5-day/4-night camps for individuals 21 and older with developmental disabilities. 

Charlotte Speech & Hearing Center
Provide a full range of effective family-centered speech, language and hearing services to everyone in need.

Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte
A family and community support organization whose goal is to enable individuals with Down syndrome (Ds) to reach their full potential and become respected members of their community. 

Dream on 3
Provides children who are living with a disability or life-altering condition an opportunity to live out their ultimate sports dreams.

Holy Angels
Provides compassionate, dependable care and opportunities for high-quality living to those with intellectual developmental disabilities and delicate medical conditions through physical, social, spiritual, educational, vocational and emotional support.

Honor Service Dogs
Provides extraordinary golden retrievers to veterans, special needs individuals, those involved in therapy work and other service dog organizations.

Seeks to transform Charlotte-Mecklenburg into a model community for the support and inclusion of children and families living with autism.

Provide support and promote opportunities that enhance the lives of individuals within the autism spectrum and their families.

Autism Speaks - Greater Charlotte
Dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder.

Assists individuals with high functioning autism and Asperger's Syndrome often have trouble finding a place of their own that will afford them social opportunities, further education and develop employment options.
