Communities In Schools surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Working in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Communities In Schools (CIS) engages with students and their families within their home school via full-time, trained Site Coordinators.

CIS is Charlotte’s largest non-profit that serves students who are overwhelmingly children of color. Last year alone, CIS served over 4,000 K-12 students through 53 schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg system.

Ask any college graduate or an associate with a new entry-level job how important experience is in landing their first big job. I’m confident that every single one will tell you that both experience and valuable connections are the most important things to have. When you’re new to an industry or embarking on the first stop along your career journey, the best way to know what you’re getting yourself into is by getting behind the driver’s seat and taking out that new potential role out for a test drive. What better test drive than an internship within the field you look to enter?

June 14, 2021

The day's programming was aimed at strengthening the nonprofit sector and providing meaningful connections as we came together to learn how to navigate new challenges and learn from experts, and each other, on how best to move forward. We explored the impact that the pandemic had on the nonprofit sector, highlighted how many nonprofits chose to adapt to the new environment, and closed with actionable steps on how to move forward. Every segment featured honest dialogue that broke down stigma and encouraged honest conversation.
