Q. What are the core focus areas of Allstate and The Allstate Foundation?

Allstate and The Allstate Foundation operate programs that give people the power to achieve their aspirations, empower those affected by violence, inspire youth, strengthen our hometown communities and engage employees and agents in purpose-driven work.

Founded in 1952, The Allstate Foundation truly cares about empowering people and communities. The Foundation focuses on three causes and supports them using a holistic, surround-sound approach.

  • Empowering Youth: Help future leaders gain essential skills for long-term success through social and emotional learning.

  • Ending Domestic Violence: Work to create a society where survivors are empowered, and young people have the necessary information to prevent unhealthy relationships before they start. 

  • Advancing Equity: Aid systemic change toward equity to support those impacted by societal inequalities.

Q. What is something you would like Charlotte to know about Allstate that they may not know regarding how your company does GOOD for our community? 

At Allstate, we are a part of the communities in which we live and work. We cultivate an environment that creates community advocates: employees, agency owners and other champions who become inspired by compelling opportunities to give back. Allstate and The Allstate Foundation are committed to building stronger and healthier communities. Our approach is a holistic one that includes:

  • Developing Nonprofit Leaders: The Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Center helps shape the minds of social innovators to solve local and national issues. We partner with Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management’s Center for Nonprofit Management to offer online nonprofit leadership development programs to nonprofit employees free of cost.

  • Supporting Our Hometowns: Allstate Insurance Company's hometown strategy goal is two-fold: giving back to the communities where our employees live and work and building Allstate’s reputation as a caring corporate citizen. Our support for local nonprofit organizations runs deep – providing philanthropic support, intellectual and human capital through employee and agent volunteerism and expertise and leadership by Allstate executives through our Officer Nonprofit Board program.

  • Using Our Skills for Good: The Allstate Fellows program matches highly skilled employees with a 3-month, skills-based volunteer project at a local nonprofit. Employees leverage their expertise to address a specific and important nonprofit need.

Q. How does Allstate encourage employees to get involved with local nonprofits? Tell us about the Helping Hands Committees.

Allstate employees and agents transform communities through civic engagement. We do this through hands-on and skills-based volunteerism, financial contributions and advocacy. We encourage employees and agents to support a variety of causes they're passionate about, supporting nearly 16,000 nonprofits annually.

For over forty years, The Allstate Foundation Helping Hands volunteer program has given Allstate employees and agents the chance to give back by getting involved in the communities where we live and work. From hands-on projects like painting and landscaping, to mentoring and skills-based programs, to nonprofit board service – our employees and agents help make our communities stronger, safer, and more beautiful. Together, we are the Good Hands® people.

We activate giving back nationwide through local Helping Hands Committees who collaboratively work to support area nonprofits year-round. 

There are more than 400 Committee members nationwide. These leaders:

  • Host volunteer projects and giving drives

  • Determine which projects their office or teams host

  • Inform colleagues on local community nonprofit needs
