Teach Children to Be Prepared for Emergencies

The American Red Cross’s Youth Preparedness presentations are free disaster preparedness
programs offered by the Red Cross across the country. Students in grades K-5 receive a 30- to
60-minute lesson and supplies to take home. The highly interactive lesson presentation teaches
students coping skills, how to stay safe in home fires and other local hazards, and how they can
empower their local communities to be more resilient!

Volunteers are needed to present, assist, and support program goals.

Responsibilities:
~ Conduct presentations to youth in schools and community settings
~ Assist with community outreach to schedule presentations
~ Work as a team with the Team Lead and other volunteers and employees to build program in the region
~ Ensure all reporting data for each presentation is collected and given to regional staff in a timely manner

Time Commitment
Each presentation requires a 2-hour time commitment (1-hour presentation plus time for set-up and clean up). This does not include travel time to presentation site. Daytime/Weekend availability. Volunteers must also commit to complete 6-8 hours of training.

Additional Requirements
~ Comfortable presenting an interactive curriculum to youth in grades k-2 (ages 5-7) or 3-5 (ages 8-11) in school and out-of- school/community settings
~ Strong organizational skills and ability to follow through with minimum supervision
~ Excellent communication skills, including public speaking
~ Dynamic personality that relates well to youth in the target age group
~ Must be able to meet all background check requirements
~ Successfully complete all required training
