Write Welcome Letters to New Immigrants

Many Latinos and immigrants don't feel included in our community when they first arrive to the city. Let's change that!

Volunteers will write welcome letters to newly-arrived families in the Charlotte area. Send a kind word of encouragement, a recommendation of your favorite eatery, or any topic worth sharing.

America feels divided right now, and immigrant communities feel especially unwelcomed. That’s why this year for Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to write a short, personal, welcoming message to New American families in Charlotte. Our goal is to receive 100 letters by the end of Giving Tuesday.

Send in your letter between now and Giving Tuesday (December 1st). If you’d prefer to give your note a personal touch, write or drop off a handwritten letter at the Coalition between now until December 1st. Just make sure you wear a mask! 4938 Central Ave, Suite 10, Charlotte, NC 28205

Virtual: Send your scanned handwritten letter or typed letter to info@mylac.org

In person: Swing by between 9:00am – 12:30pm or 12:30pm – 5:00pm

Tips for a good letter:

Please keep your message to a single page (8” x 11”)

Feel free to write multiple letters

Spanish or English is fine (we will translate for you!)

Keep in mind: Language proficiency may be limited for some families

Suggested topics: your favorite park, restaurant, or activity (including during times of COVID); what makes Charlotte special to you.
