What We Do
Carolina Farm Trust's mission is to strengthen local food systems in the Carolinas, from production to consumption. We are dedicated to connecting local food systems stakeholders to ensure the right to nutritious, sufficient, affordable, sustainable foods for all people. We do this by preserving land for farming, supporting small farmers, and operating a network of urban farms. The benefits of our work are wide-ranging. We foster the next generation of small farmers, preserve the availability and affordability of land for growing, minimize reliance on national and international sources of food, improve human health, improve ecosystem health, mitigate climate change, and connect communities. CURRENT PROJECTS: This past year, we launched operations at two urban farms in the Charlotte area. The Urban Farm at Aldersgate is 6.7 acres of land in East Charlotte that nourishes, educates, and inspires the community, while fostering intergenerational, multicultural connectivity. The Mill Grove Farm Co-Op in Fairview, a suburb of Charlotte, has come to life through a collaboration between Nebedaye Farms, Serendipity Flowers, and Crown Town Compost. Together, these organizations are growing fresh produce and flowers, with the help of Charlotte residents' organic waste. IMPACT OF COVID-19 COVID-19 has created serious challenges for our local food systems, ranging from food shortages to distribution challenges. Carolina Farm Trust has responded by: -Supporting existing on-ground efforts -Meeting farmers' short-term needs -Bringing cash flow to restaurants, caterers and food trucks Make a donation to Carolina Farm Trust today to ensure the human right to nutritious, sufficient food. Every dollar helps.
