#WomenGiveCLT 2024 Recap

#WomenGiveCLT Recap - 2024

Celebrating our 3rd year  of #WomenGiveCLT which is a unique event co-hosted by SHARE Charlotte, the Women’s Impact Fund and the Junior League of Charlotte, Inc to bring together community minded women to meet 20 local nonprofits focused on supporting Women and Girls.

This event has brought together hundreds of women (and men) in our community interested in the collective power to support these organizations who have historically received lower support. Across the U.S. nonprofits working to advance women’s and girls’ causes received $8.8 billion in philanthropic support, just 1.81 percent of total charitable giving, the fifth annual Women & Girls Index (WGI) from the Women’s Philanthropy Institute (WPI) at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy finds (click here).

Additionally, these organizations not only need our funding but also the talents and skills of people (and especially women) to fill critical volunteer, board or committee roles.

Women are a force for change! The vast majority (85%) of household charitable giving decisions are made or influenced by women. Despite women’s philanthropic leadership and active engagement, they remain underrepresented on nonprofit governance boards, with just 16% of affluent women compared to 30% of affluent men holding board positions (click here).

As a response to this alarming trend, this year  we created more intentional opportunities to meet women and girls serving nonprofit organizations with open board, committee, or volunteer roles by providing digital guide that outlined the open roles within each nonprofit - click here.

If you are interested in joining a nonprofit board, there are several great resources to help you prepare for board service:

United Way of Greater Charlotte, Nonprofit Board Member Training

A Workshop Series for Leaders to Learn, Stimulate Conversation, and Fuel Change.

Joining a nonprofit board member training program is a valuable investment for both individuals and the organizations they serve, helping to strengthen governance, enhance effectiveness, and drive positive impact in the community.

United Way offers two Nonprofit Board Member Trainings:

  • Nonprofit Board Service 101: The Foundations of Equitable Governance on May 16th
  • Governance 201: Actions and Perspectives on Racial Equity and Nonprofit Board Service on June 5th

Women's Impact Fund

A women’s leadership development program (hosted in the spring) with a focus on civic engagement including board service.

You can join a WIF board committee – whether in a field where you have experience or where you have none – as soon as you join as a member. WIF members go on to serve on a variety of other nonprofit boards throughout our region. The network of members is also powerful in building community connections and connecting to open nonprofit board roles.
