NAMI Charlotte

As Mental Health Awareness Week approaches, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is excited to announce a community kick-off aimed at providing support and resources for families and friends impacted by mental health in partnership with YMCA of Greater Charlotte. This series marks the beginning of a week-long series of activities dedicated to raising awareness and fostering community support.

"Our goal is to create a supportive network in Charlotte where families and friends impacted by mental health can find comfort, guidance, and hope."

Schedule

The kick-off event is scheduled for May 13, 2024 at Simmons YMCA located at 6824 Democracy Dr, Charlotte, NC 28212 from 6pm - 8pm and will feature:

1. Educational Workshop: NAMI Family & Friends is led by trained people with lived experience of supporting a family member with a mental health condition. They will walk you through the following topics:
   • Understanding diagnoses, treatment and recovery
   • Effective communication strategies
   • The importance of self-care
   • Crisis preparation strategies
   • NAMI and community resources
2. Interactive Discussions: Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in open discussions, sharing their experiences, challenges, and successes in supporting their loved ones' mental health.
3. Networking Opportunities: Attendees will have the chance to connect with other individuals facing similar challenges, fostering a sense of community and understanding.

The grand finale will be a community celebration on May 16, 2024 at Johnston YMCA
