Founded and based in Charlotte, Housing Collaborative (formerly Socialserve) is a nonprofit that helps make affordable housing easier to navigate. Our vision is a world where everyone can see a path home. Housing Collaborative supports housing initiatives through tenant placement, landlord recruitment and support, housing support center services for partners across the country, and a flexible approach to achieving housing goals. At home in Charlotte, we are a Second Chance employer dedicated to hiring at-risk individuals, providing stable employment with full benefits and personal and professional development opportunities. We believe in using our journeys to help others overcome barriers to housing. Volunteer opportunities usually focus on professional skill-building presentations and courses for our staff. Housing Collaborative builds relationships with housing providers to increase affordable housing options for people in Mecklenburg County who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We lead the effort to recruit and retain housing providers willing to work with tenants facing hardships, eliminating barriers for people in need of stable housing and helping property providers navigate complex housing programs. We administer funds to mitigate the risk to and retain housing providers, and eliminate financial barriers for prospective tenants. In 2023, Housing Collaborative helped secure housing for 311 households experiencing homelessness. This was achieved through supportive relationships with housing and services providers, as well as funding to removed financial barriers to housing such as arrears, application fees, and security deposits. Please consider donating to our tenant assistance fund, which removes the financial barriers to housing for our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness.
