What We Do
We are excited that Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte have officially merged. You will continue to see our identities separate or co-branded until a final identity for our new organization is rolled out in early 2020.
Our newly merged agency is a comprehensive homeless service provider that offers a continuum of care to people experiencing homelessness in Mecklenburg County.
The continuum of services covers everything from street outreach, basic services (mail, showers, laundry) and a year-round soup kitchen, an emergency shelter for men, Room in the Inn, rapid rehousing and permanent supportive housing programs. In addition, we offer a substance abuse program that offers transitional housing to men in recovery.
IMPACT OF COVID-19 - SPECIFIC NEEDS:
How We Are Impacted:
The COVID-19 pandemic is adding extra stress to an already stretched homeless service system.
Liz Clasen-Kelly, CEO, shared, “While we have no knowledge of any COVID-19 on our campuses, we have taken precautions and are beginning to roll out additional protections. People experiencing homelessness are particularly at risk due to the congregate nature of our facilities and common health vulnerabilities (like) hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD.”
How You Can Help:
Our Amazon Wishlist (bit.ly/UrbAmazon) reflects the needs of our whole organization (six campuses). More information can be found at https://www.urbanministrycenter.org/helping-the-homeless/ways-you-can-help/donate/our-wishlist/
