Hurricane Helene made historic landfall as the only known Cat 4 to hit Florida's Big Bend since records started in 1851. The storm made landfall around 11 PM near Perry, FL, Southwest of Tallahassee, and moved inland, tearing through Georgia and North Carolina. The hurricane brought catastrophic rainfall, which caused severe flooding and mudslides in western North Carolina and other states. In North Carolina alone, it claimed the lives of 104 people and caused $60 billion in damages. 8 tornados were spawned from the storm in North Carolina, and areas of western North Carolina were absolutely devastated, with reports that search and rescue teams had not reached the mountainous areas days later.
The size and scale of this response is huge, and we have committed to being in the area for at least one year.
