Become an individual volunteer at our Day Services Center! As one of our community’s hubs for basic needs and connections to resources, our Day Services Center is open to anyone, specifically those who are experiencing homelessness, as well as those who are unstably housed.
Descriptions of Volunteer Opportunities at Day Services Center:
Showers: Roof Above provides showers for up to 26 neighbors in the morning and up to 18 neighbors in the afternoon.
Shower volunteer responsibilities include:
- Providing each neighbor with a towel, washcloth, and toiletries
- Managing the shower list
- Ensuring each neighbor showers within 20 minutes Calling the next person on the list when a shower becomes available
- Restocking toiletries
- Folding clean towels
Laundry: Roof Above provides laundry services for up to 14 neighbors in the morning and up to 7 neighbors in the afternoon.
Laundry volunteer responsibilities include:
- Receiving neighbors’ dirty laundry and taping neighbors’ laundry slips to the correct washer/dryer units
- Washing and drying laundry
- Calling neighbors to pick up clean laundry
- Washing and drying towels from showers
Front Desk: Roof Above provides access to various services as well as distribution of small items.
Front Desk volunteer responsibilities include:
- Greeting neighbors
- Checking neighbors’ mail
- Signing up neighbors for phone and nurse services
- Distributing socks, hats/gloves, over-the-counter medications, and other small items
Mail: Roof Above received and distributes mail for neighbors.
Mail volunteer responsibilities include:
- Sorting mail alphabetically
- Placing mail in appropriate boxes
Details about Volunteer Shifts:
We have two shifts, every Monday–Friday. The morning shift runs from 8:30am-12:00pm, and the afternoon shift runs from 1:30pm–4:00pm.
