Little Free Library

Volunteer Opportunity:
The Great Charlotte Little Free Library Stock-a-thon
I'm Interested!

We need your help this #MakeaDifferenceDay to eradicate the Charlotte Book Desert.

Charlotte is home to nearly 1 million people and a startling number of those households have less than 100+ books at home. Let’s do something to change that!

This #MakeaDifferenceDay, steward Jasmine challenging our LFL stewards and volunteers to stock the LFLs across the city, to help build community, inspire readers, and expand book access. Jasmine will collect books from the Charlotte Book Bank, Promising Pages, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library in the weeks leading up to Make a Difference Day weekend (October 25-27, 2024) [feel free to collect your own as well] and then sort volunteers into groups to participate in a stock-a-thon all weekend!

Register here to participate

Responsibilities:

  • Go to Little Free Libraries near you and leave books inside. We’ll specifically focus on the areas in greatest need in Charlotte - see Charlotte Book Desert Map.
  • Use the Little Free Library app to check-in and share how many books you donated.
  • Send pictures of your stocking adventures to me (Jasmine) post-event! (Number to be shared upon registration!)

Time required: Jasmine's volunteer time will be concentrated on Sunday, October 27, 2024, but you can distribute books anytime that weekend. We’ll meet for a social and celebration on Sunday, October 27th, at noon at Divine Barrel Brewing in NoDa! The first round is on your host, Jasmine!

Volunteers can pick up books from the organizer anytime on Friday, October 25th, in East Charlotte, or use their own supply of books to participate.

Transportation is NOT required for this event, though encouraged as the city is sprawling. Specific routes may be completed by foot or bike.

Children are welcome to participate along with parents/guardians, including the celebration at Divine Barrel Brewing on Sunday! Non-alcoholic options will be available.

Always exercise caution when stopping at a Little Free Library. Be mindful of your surroundings and turn on your hazards if parking on a street.

Consider bringing sunscreen and bug spray, especially if you plan on volunteering for more than an hour. Check the weather and plan accordingly.
