United Way of Greater Charlotte is empowering residents to create the change they want to see in their communities through our United Neighborhoods program. Working alongside our community quarterback organizations, we co-create Live United Day events. These events bring together neighborhood residents and volunteers to build a better community and raise awareness about the neighborhood initiatives and opportunities that are available.
Get ready for the season of giving and join us as we support "Health for the Holidays," a Grier Heights community event with on-site health resources and screenings, vaccines, food trucks, giveaways, and much more! Volunteers will help with event set-up and take-down, distributing resources, gifts, and goodie bags, and facilitating activities, while actively contributing to improving health outcomes for neighborhood residents.
Volunteers can arrive for set-up at 11:30am and the event will begin at 1pm.

Did You Know?
The Grier Heights neighborhood can trace its roots back to Sam Billings, a formerly enslaved man, when he bought 100 acres of land in the area in the 1890s. This made him the first recorded African-American to buy land in Charlotte, NC. The Billingsville School, built for African-American students in the late 1920s, still stands in the neighborhood today and has been repurposed as the Grier Heights Community Center. Read more here.
