The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an IRS initiative that Buenas Finanzas Carolinas offers under the name VITA Latino for the benefit of the Latino community in Charlotte in which basic tax preparation is offered to those who qualify . The heart and soul of this program is its volunteers, whom are supported in all steps during certification and tax filing dates. 

During tax season, tax prep days are hosted at various partner sites in 4-hour shifts. Volunteers can help the Buenas Finanzas Carolinas team in the different roles and responsibilities including: 

• Interpreter
• Ambassador
• Greeter (intake and interview)
• Tax Preparer (basic and advanced)

Who can be a volunteer? 

• Anyone 18+ years of age, no previous experience is necessary. 

• Those who participate in the IRS/Buenas Finanzas Carolinas training (approximately 3-5 hours total). 

• Those who take and pass the IRS certification. 

• Those who can commit between 4 and 40 hours of volunteering during the entire tax season (January-April). 

What are the benefits of being our volunteer? 

• Learn new skills and/or improve your own skills. 

• Free education (basic or advanced level tax preparation training using IRS-provided tools and hands-on application). 

• Participate in a network with community members and community aid agencies. 

• Continuing Education (CE) credits for many professionals.
