GenerationNation

Volunteer Opportunity:
Classroom/Youth Speaker

This opportunity has passed.

Volunteer your time and talents to support GenerationNation, a Charlotte nonprofit organization that connects classroom learning with hands-on experiences to build civic literacy and leadership from an early age. In this volunteer opportunity, you will join GenerationNation's Speakers Bureau for K-12 classrooms and afterschool/youth programs. We will work with area teachers who request a Speakers Bureau volunteer to schedule a speaking opportunity on a relevant topic (with assistance as needed) at a mutually convenient time. This may be done virtually. Relevant experience and topics includes: government, civic leadership, public service, civic life, news media, current events, law, courts, elections and voting, and other nonpartisan topics related to civic literacy and leadership. One of the best ways for students to learn is through learning opportunities that connect students with real-life experiences for college, career, and civic life. Through GenerationNation, students explore the community, share their own perspectives with leaders, present to public officials, cast their own mock votes, plan a city, follow news, build civic literacy, and much more. In doing this, they learn how their governments and communities work, understand the key issues, and gain the knowledge, skill, and interest to make a difference as a new generation of civic leaders.
