Event:
Building Bridges: Transitional Group Home

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Machiah's House Inc was established to operate as a transitional group home to assist young women who have aged-out from foster care. We're seeking to raise funding for a safe transitional group home in the Charlotte area. We are committed to ensuring healthy and nurturing stability through a quality, comprehensive continuum of care in the fields of social services, education, career-building, corrections, mental health and housing that promotes strong self-independence and advocates for change.

Every year, thousands of young adults age out of the foster care system with no safe place to call home. Often, they face heartbreaking circumstances: many end up sleeping in the offices of the Department of Social Services (DSS), on floors or chairs, instead of in the warm, stable, and supportive environments they need and deserve. In North Carolina alone, over 700 youth age out of foster care each year. Nationally, nearly 20,000 youth exit foster care annually, often with limited resources and without a stable home environment.

This situation is dire. Research shows that one in five foster youth who age out will experience homelessness within the first year of aging out, and by the time they reach their mid-20s, 50% will have been homeless at least once. These young adults have limited access to support, which can create obstacles to securing employment, completing education, and building a healthy adult life. A stable housing environment is critical for these young people to develop life skills, pursue education and career goals, and grow emotionally and socially.

At Machiah’s House, we are committed to changing this narrative. To do so, we need a secure, nurturing environment—a five-bedroom, four-bathroom home would serve this purpose well, providing enough space for several young adults to receive dedicated support and guidance. Securing such a home comes at a cost; purchasing a property of this size typically requires substantial funding, often exceeding $500,000 in our region. Alternatively, securing monthly funding for a rental and operational costs is critical to get our doors open and begin offering these essential services. Beyond just housing, ongoing expenses are required for daily operations, including educational materials, life skills training, mentorship and individualized case management, all aimed at empowering these young women to succeed.

With your support, we can begin building a path forward for these young adults, who are not just part of our community’s future but our legacy. Let’s offer them the hope and opportunities they deserve, making a meaningful impact one life at a time.

Given the nature of our operations as a 501(c)(3), Machiah's House does not aim to generate profit in the traditional sense. Instead, any surplus funds generated are reinvested back into the organization to further its mission and expand its impact.

The financial sustainability of Machiah's House relies on a combination of revenue sources, including rental income from residents, fundraising events, donations, and grants. These funds are utilized to cover operational expenses such as staff salaries, utilities, maintenance, food, and programmatic costs. While Machiah's House may not generate profit in the traditional sense, it aims to achieve financial stability and sustainability to continue serving its mission effectively.

By efficiently managing its resources, maximizing revenue streams, and leveraging community support, Machiah's House can fulfill its commitment to supporting young women aged-out from foster care and making a positive difference in their lives.

Growth and Expansion Plan for Machiah's House Transitional Group Home Program

Initial Home Expansion (Year 1-5):

  • Acquire and renovate a potential 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom home with office space, kitchen, laundry room, and family room.
  • Increase capacity to accommodate up to 12 residents (or more) by utilizing existing space efficiently or acquiring another home.
  • Enhance program offerings with additional life skills workshops, educational resources, and employment readiness training.
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community leaders to increase awareness and support for Machiah's House.
  • Gradual Expansion and Program Development.

Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of these young women, equipping them with the tools and resources they need to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Your support is not just an investment in their future, but a beacon of hope that reminds them they are valued and deserving of every opportunity.

Thank you for your generosity and commitment to making a positive impact in our community. With your help, Machiah's House will continue to be a beacon of light for those in need, offering a pathway towards independence, self-sufficiency, and success. We're looking for 100% participation from our community to reach our housing goals. You can decide to donate the full amount all at once, or in monthly payments to help spread out your gift.
