Access to Success (A2S) is a nonprofit organization that provides sustainable programs that generate positive change for Nigerian children and their communities. Our vision is that each person in Nigeria finds a dignified path to a successful life and is empowered to live out God’s plan for a future filled with hope. A2S was founded by former Davidson Basketball player, Andrew Lovedale and benefits Andrew’s home in Benin City, Nigeria. Nigeria has one of the largest populations of people living in extreme poverty in the world. Material poverty robs people of one of God's greatest gifts: the gift of choice. Throughout our programs, our goal is to help our beneficiaries build agency to restore that gift of choice. Then our hope is to empower each person to be a Godly steward of their time, talent, and treasures in their communities.
Our Activities Include:
Education Programs
The A2S After School Academy: provides food, school supplies, curriculum assistance, extra curricular activities, and school fee support for 250 children
The A2S Scholars Program: provides need and merit based scholarships for 68 university scholars in Nigeria and opportunities to study at the high school and university levels for 4 students in the US
Community Empowerment Programs
The Community Outreach Program: reaches 10,000 each year by conducting shoe distributions, school supply distributions, food distributions, and facilitates local school partnerships
The Small Grants Program: provides the opportunities for 10 A2S families to receive a grant that supports their small businesses.
Adult Literacy Program: supports 20 adult students with reading and math classes - 100% of our students are mothers of our After School Academy children.
Career Development Programs
The A2S Entrepreneur Empowerment Program: provides resources and mentorship to 300 entrepreneurs as well as intensive mentorship and funding opportunities to 3 businesses each year through our pitch competition and incubator
The A2S Entrepreneur Hub: is a collaborative workspace dedicated to our entrepreneurs. Community members can reserve individual and team spaces in this open office that includes consistent and free access to electricity and wifi. Printing and laptop services are also available.
Workforce Development Workshops: are our quarterly workshops dedicated to training our A2S scholars and older secondary school children to prepare them for the workforce. The education system in Nigeria is highly theoretical. Through sessions at these workshops students learn skills that apply directly to the professional world in an environment that encourages critical thinking and practice.
