The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to fight every cancer in every community. The Relay For Life movement fuels the mission of the American Cancer Society, an organization that touches the lives of so many – those who are battling cancer, those who may face a diagnosis, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether thanks to education, prevention, and early detection.
American Cancer Society NC Partnerships and Programs:
*Partnership with Mecklenburg County Health Department to successfully create and implement a Tobacco and Smoke Free Community
*$23 million in active cancer research grants (NC Chapel Hill, Duke, Wake Forest, NC State)
*Patient Navigator for area Charlotte cancer survivors
*Keys Of Hope - 6,999 nights of free or reduced rate lodging are provided through Hope Lodge and/or Extended Stay America partnership – Keys of Hope
*Several area Charlotte community programs: Relay For Life Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Relay Recess - program also engages area elementary school students in the fight against cancer through fundraising activities that support cancer programs and services in every community.
