What We Do
Animal Adoption League helps place formerly homeless dogs, puppies, kittens and cats into loving homes. We work with local high-kill shelters and help strays who need an outlet for adoption.
IMPACT OF COVID-19 - SPECIFIC NEEDS:
Because of the uncertain economic environment, our monetary donations are down and our hands-on fundraising events are canceled.
Local pet stores have stopped allowing in-house adoption events. The events allowed us to meet and talk with potential adopters in person, and they also had the chance to view multiple dogs and cats at once. The pet stores also donated high-quality pet food to us after the adoption events – those donations have stopped.
In the past, we have been able to temporarily board fosters/intakes at our partner vets at a substantially reduced rescue rate to get them rehabilitated or until we could find foster homes. Most of these have discontinued boarding or have raised their fees for rescues (formerly $10/day to $30/day).
People want to adopt, but the risk is no home visits, only virtual, and we must trust that the pictures they are sending us is their actual house. Another risk is when this is all over and they go back to work, will they return the pet because they won’t have the “time” anymore?
