: A Better World’s program helps at-risk kids who live in troubled homes and neighborhoods. We equip them with the skills and confidence to be responsible adults by nurturing their physical, academic, and spiritual development. The kids we nurture are guaranteed a positive, life-changing experience. We serve in the West Charlotte Freedom Corridor. This area was identified as one of the most poverty stricken areas of Mecklenburg County. We serve to bring our students to reading back on grade level. We serve with our A Better World program called Read to Live. It is an educational model that we utilize to raise academic proficiency? we utilize this program: iReady Program: I-Ready is a state of the art, online education program that provides students with personalized, interactive lessons to improve their reading skills. i-Ready provides measurable data on student progress, allowing A Better World to verify that students’ reading goals are met and ensure they are on track to be reading on grade level by third grade. The program is based on North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI) standards and provides easy to read reports for individual students, whole classes, and the entire program. Progress monitoring can be done a minimum of three times per year or as often as once per week to chart reading progress in six main areas: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, High-Frequency Words, Vocabulary, Comprehension-Literature, and Comprehension-Informational Text.
