What We Do
Brave Step empowers individuals who have been impacted by sexual abuse. To shape a strong, supportive community, we:
• Provide personalized services that help adults impacted by sexual abuse reclaim the life they deserve;
• Foster brave public conversations about sexual abuse; and
• Cultivate courageous changemakers.
IMPACT OF COVID-19 - SPECIFIC NEEDS:
During a time of quarantine for the coronavirus, individuals' risk for sexual violence is magnified. To put the risk in perspective, “nearly 6 out of 10 sexual assaults occur in the victim’s home or the home of a friend, relative or neighbor.” (Department of Justice) For many, this period of isolation is a nightmare. Brave Step has transitioned its peer groups, group therapy and individual counseling to a telehealth service to allow for continuity of services.
However, this heightened danger of sexual violence will increase requests for help, and we need financial assistance to prepare for that. Additionally, the economic impact of the coronavirus will force individuals to choose basic necessities over much-needed trauma care. We want to be equipped to ensure they have the care that is needed.
