BreatheINK creates poetic safe spaces and builds an artistic community for Charlotte, NC area youth by developing opportunities for positive self-expression through youth-focused poetry programming. We deliver high-quality, year-round writing and performance development programming and outreach that equips and empowers teen poets to share personal stories and opinions on issues they are passionate about. We share our love and knowledge of creative writing, editing, and performance through workshops, one-on-one sessions, and group discussions. Our students are able to learn from overwhelmingly successful, award-winning and globally recognized adult poets, coaches, and slammasters with many decades of experience.
We are currently in search of three new members for our Board of Directors to help support increased mental and emotional health levels for our local youth through writing, performance, and creative self-expression. Ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the following fields: marketing, volunteerism, fundraising, corporate partnership, and navigating the nonprofit community within Charlotte, NC.
- Charlotte, NC's Poet Laureate, an HBO Def Poet, and two National Poetry Slam Champions are board and staff members of BreatheINK.
- Our students saw a 25% skills gain in language arts and literacy coursework in their respective schools.
- One of our goals is to bring the nationally renowned Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Festival to Charlotte NC spearheaded by our students.
