Cakeable is a workforce development program that equips our neighbors who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities with skills for successful, inclusive employment. We offer vocational training in a commercial baking kitchen in the Oakhurst neighborhood, and Cakeable's 14 employees sell their baked goods at Julia's Cafe & Books, the Catalyst Coffee Bar at CPCC Main Campus, and the Uptown Farmers Market. Our team also uses their creative abilities to produce candles, bath products, and art available for sale at Sardis Marketplace. Our mission is to joyfully empower people, businesses, and communities to achieve their fullest potential through inclusive work environments!
- We currently have 14 team members who have intellectual/developmental disabilities. We are expanding to open the Cakeable Cafe in Uptown Charlotte in 2023!
- A 2019 report from United Cerebral Palsy ranks North Carolina 41 out of 50 states in employment opportunities for individuals who have disabilities.
- Cakeable's inclusive mission inspires businesses to consider the multiple benefits of adding talented, trained, neuro diverse staff to their teams.
