The Caribbean International Cultural Association (CICA) was formed in 1999 by a few individuals from the Caribbean who wanted to share the Caribbean culture and available resources; to unify our community in the Carolinas; and to help to improve the lives of others. As a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization for the past 25 years, CICA is driven by its mission: “United in Service to the Charlotte Community and the Caribbean Community worldwide.”
CICA's primary purpose, from its onset, is to expand educational opportunities by providing scholarships annually to children of Caribbean heritage who are residents of the Charlotte metropolitan area.
The second goal that CICA employs to deliver its mission is to provide humanitarian services to vulnerable individuals and families in need. Over the years, CICA has provided assistance to individuals and families from organizations such as Crisis Assistance Ministries, and most recently, Levine Children’s Hospital.
The final and overarching goal of CICA is to promote Caribbean culture throughout the Americas.
- Since inception, CICA has awarded more than 75 scholarships to high school graduates within the Charlotte, North Carolina region
- Founding partner with the Jamaican American Cultural Association (JACA) for the creation and production of The Caribbean American Summer Festival 2002-2004,
- Host annual Family Fun Day in partnership with University YMCA.
