What We Do
In operation since 1963, the Charlotte Area Fund (CAF) is a non-profit organization and the designated community action agency for Mecklenburg County whose: Mission is to identify and address poverty causes by providing programs and services that assist economically disadvantaged citizens with gaining the skills and abilities necessary to achieve self-sufficiency. Vision is to be Mecklenburg County’s recognized community action agency, empowering residents while ensuring equal opportunity for all. Some of the initiatives developed and programs operated by Charlotte Area Fund in the past are: Food Bank of Metrolina (now known as Second Harvest Food Bank), Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont, employment and training (now WIOA),

- In 2017, nearly 200 low-income individuals received comprehensive services designed to remove them from poverty.
- CAF pre-dates the Office of Economic Opportunity and is one of the first five agencies funded by the North Carolina Fund in 1963.
