Charlotte Bilingual Preschool’s (CltBP) mission is to prepare Spanish-speaking children for success in school and life by providing
superior dual language, multi-cultural early childhood education.
Did you know that almost 30% of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) students identify as Latino? The latest 2022-23 report from CMS shows that only 14.7% of Hispanic students report as being “college and career ready”, with only 70.8% graduating within four years last year, compared with CMS' overall graduation rate of 82.6%.
In a direct response to improving these concerning statistics, the Charlotte Bilingual Preschool offers the following core services:
Preschool ages 3-5: Through this free, 5-star licensed early education center, children are immersed in a dual language, literacy-rich environment that prepares them for kindergarten and builds their English proficiency while leveraging the advantages of bilingualism and cultural diversity.
Family Programs: We offer programs to support families with children ages infant to 5. The goals of these programs are to support early literacy, cognitive and social-emotional growth and build a culturally relevant healthy home environment.
Workforce Development: To create a pipeline of bilingual educators, we partner with CPCC to offer Early Childhood Education classes in Spanish, on the weekends, to our families and Latino adults in our community. Through this partnership, we guide students through pathways to become credentialed educators.
As front-line service providers for Charlotte’s rapidly growing Latino population, we’ve recently seen an increased need for our services and unique model, which has inspired a new phase of growth and ambitious goal setting. Our strategic plan is to serve 1,500 Latino children annually by 2030 and strengthening our unique, two-generation model so that it is replicable not just across Charlotte, but throughout North Carolina and even nationally.
These goals are deeply rooted in our vision of Charlotte (and beyond) as a place where differences in language and culture are mutually enriching, rather than divisive, and where all children have access to opportunities regardless of background.
