What We Do
Greater Steps Scholars provides post-secondary scholarships, mentoring and career prep workshops & activities to equip students living in low-income housing with the tools they need to achieve success and economic mobility. We support 125 students each year.
#GIVINGTUESDAY ASK:
We have a big goal: To raise $6,500 to cover account balances for eight Greater Steps Scholars so they can register and return to school for the Spring 2021 semester. The total balance amount is $13,000. But we have a challenge match from a generous donor who will match your donations, dollar for dollar, up to $6,500. So our students need your help to keep them in school.
IMPACT OF COVID-19 - SPECIFIC NEEDS:
How We Are Impacted: Our annual Believers & Achievers Gala was scheduled for April 25th, but is now cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have already paid for some vendor expenses that we cannot recoup. This Gala and auction fundraiser makes up a big chunk of our fundraising budget and provides us with funds to support our low-income, first generation college students with scholarships, mentors, and career readiness skills.
As a response to the COVID-19 situation affecting our students, we created an emergency fund to support currently enrolled students with online learning supplies, bill support and transportation support.
How You Can Help: You can help by making a donation for immediate use to help us support our students with emergency needs mentioned above, or to fill a fundraising gap left by the cancellation of the Gala to support scholarships and programming for our 2020-21 student scholars.
Visit www.fftc.org/greatersteps to make gift online. Please be sure to type in "for immediate use" in the notes area.
We are also in need of mentors to pair with our 2021-22 cohort of students. Your assignment would not begin until June, but you can complete the application, training and background check virtually before June.
