What We Do
The CMS Foundation is the official nonprofit partner for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), raising money to support the district’s highest strategic priorities. Harnessing the power of private investments in education, we seed innovative ideas and help expand programs to accelerate system-wide transformation.
We play a unique role in our community, serving as a trusted bridge that connects donors to the district’s most critical work. In this position, we help ensure investments in our school system have a meaningful, sustainable impact on our students and educators.
The knowledge and skills required to succeed in our global society continue to evolve, and so do the needs of our education system. Public funding alone is not sufficient to provide our students and teachers the opportunities they need and deserve. It takes the support of our entire community.
A great community must have a great public school system. We believe that by working together, we can make Charlotte-Mecklenburg a national leader in public education, where teaching is an iconic profession and opportunity abounds for every child.
We're developing a culture "schoolanthropy"—it's more than just philanthropy, it's a spirit of support for our public schools and it can redefine our community. We invite you to become a schoolanthropist and support public education in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
IMPACT OF COVID-19 - SPECIFIC NEEDS:
How CMS Is Impacted:
The CMS Foundation launched the CMS COVID-19 Relief Fund to help meet the needs of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ students and families while schools are closed due the coronavirus. The primary focus of the fund is to equip students with the resources they need to access learning virtually and stay connected with their teachers during school closures.
Through contributions to the COVID-19 Relief Fund, the foundation is able to provide mobile hotspots and prepaid internet service to students without home internet connectivity, as well as purchase Google Chromebooks to help the district maintain an adequate supply of laptop computers for students now relying on the devices to learn from home.
“We want to ensure our students can continue learning and have access to as many additional supports as possible during this time. While there is no blueprint for the current challenge we are facing, we know that additional resources will make a major difference for our students. Our partnership with the CMS Foundation will help us address those critical needs as they arise.” - CMS Superintendent Earnest Winston
