What We Do
Our mission is to photograph every child until there is a cure!
Every year, Flashes of Hope provides SMILES and HOPE to children battling cancer through direct services and funding pediatric cancer research. During non-COVID times, we host free, monthly, professional photo shoots at local Charlotte area children’s’ hospitals. We give families an enduring image of their child’s courage, beauty, and dignity.
During the COVID pandemic, though, we have had to shift our focus since we are not physically able to photograph patients and their families in the hospitals. Which is why we have introduced PictureMe Kits! These therapeutic photo kits are for use in hospitals and patient lodging facilities. Hospital staff assist patients and families while they conduct their very own mini photo shoot and print their images on-site!
The PictureMe kit contains:
• iPad
• Canon Selphy 4x6 portable photo printer and print supplies
• Picture frame crafts
• Mini photo books
• Journals & pens
• Postcards with stamps
• Make-up kits for teens
• Photo props and string lights with photo clips to decorate a child’s room
The activities provide a much-needed distraction from the monotony and boredom of an extended illness and give the children an opportunity to connect with friends and families outside the hospital. PictureMe enables us to continue our goals of restoring a child’s sense of identity and providing families with images of their child’s unique story.
Additionally, Flashes of Hope has raised over $1 million per year to fund lab research of rare and underfunded pediatric cancers, supplying hope for the future.
