What We Do

Flashes of Hope recently merged with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a national nonprofit that emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra "Alex" Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. ALSF's mission uniquely aligns with Flashes of Hope. Since its inception, Flashes of Hope has provided families an enduring image of their child's courage, beauty and dignity through free, professional photo shoots at local hospitals. While COVID-19 has placed these sessions on pause, ALSF is looking forward to resuming the Flashes of Hope program in Charlotte and across the country when it is safe to do so for staff, volunteers, and, most importantly, childhood cancer families. As planning continues for how to resume photo shoots, ALSF continues to fundraise critical research funds for breakthrough projects that can one day deliver cures for all children. There are lots of ways for supporters to get involved, from family-friendly virtual fundraisers to holding safe, socially distanced lemonade stands during our signature event from June 5-13, Lemonade Days.
