What We Do

Girls on the Run inspires 3rd - 8th grade girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Nearly 50% of GOTR participants receive financial assistance to enable their participation in the program. Trained volunteer coaches use physical activity as a platform for teaching life skills and promoting holistic health outcomes. Girls on the Run began in Charlotte, NC in 1996 with a team of 13 girls. Since then, we have grown to serve over one and a half million girls from coast to coast. With the assistance of dedicated volunteers, partners and donors, Girls on the Run Charlotte serves over 3,500 girls annually in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties.
