The Student Enrichment Experience (SEE) After School Program in Charlotte links K-12 students who are blind or visually impaired to a wide range of curriculum-focused programs that combine arts and crafts, music, cooking, assistive technology, and independent living skills to foster independence. Partnerships with local churches and schools ensure participants have the opportunities to engage with the Charlotte community. SEE After School helps boost self-esteem, builds confidence and develops skills for work and life. SEE After School Charlotte also gives participants the opportunity to build confidence- through creating a community of individuals with similar shared experiences, SEE teaches children how to be a friend and how to stand alone. SEE also gives the sighted community the opportunity to appreciate and understand the abilities of individuals who are blind or visually impaired through partnerships with outside groups and activities. Our staff includes certified teachers for the visually impaired and orientation and mobility specialists. For many students, this is also an opportunity to learn from the life experiences of adults with blindness and visual impairment who work with the SEE program. - Our Charlotte SEE participants love to give back! They recently made blankets for the Forsyth Humane Society.
