What We Do

Levine Museum’s mission is to engage a broad-based audience in the exploration and appreciation of the diverse history of the American South since the Civil War, with a focus on Charlotte and the surrounding Carolina Piedmont. The Museum's vision is to connect the past to the future to realize the promises of a New South. Levine Museum of the New South serves the Charlotte region as a civic institution, educational resource and center city attraction with onsite visitation and offsite programming touching more than 100,000 annually.

Starting out as a fledgling “museum without walls” in 1991, Levine Museum of the New South has become an innovative, award-winning institution that has drawn national recognition in the museum field. Guided by five core values of scholarship, education, inclusion, collaboration and fiscal responsibility.
