What We Do
LifeShare Carolinas is proud to fulfill our mission of giving hope, life, and healing in 23 counties in southwestern North Carolina. Founded in 1970, our core purpose is to save lives by coordinating the recovery and distribution of lifesaving organs, eyes, and tissues for transplantation and medical research. We are also tasked with educating the community about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation throughout our service area, which includes 40 hospitals and 3.1 million people.
Our Bridge to Healing program ensures the families of our donors are not alone as they walk out the weeks, months, and years after losing their loved one. We stay connected with them through counseling, events, remembrance opportunities, as well as mail and phone follow-up. Family members are encouraged to share their loved one’s story, to honor the ultimate demonstration of generosity – giving the gift of life. The program also helps families connect with each other and navigate the grief journey alongside others who have walked a similar path.
