Madelyn's Fund supports infant and pediatric patients in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and their families, as well as those who experience the trauma of infant loss.
We currently support families with a child in the NICU at Charlotte's two main hospitals: Novant Health Presbytertian Hemby Children's Hospital NICU and Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital NICU and Neonatal CVICU.
Madelyn's Fund assists families in two ways:
1) Everyday living expenses relating to the families’ NICU stay. Assistance includes transportation costs to and from the hospital, lodging and meals, baby supplies, and supplementing for loss of income by helping families maintain necessary household expenses, such as utilities, while they are unable to work.
2) Funeral expenses for families who experience the tragedy of infant loss.
By assisting with unexpected expenses, Madelyn’s Fund hopes to not only reduce the impact of the emotional and financial stressors of having a medically fragile baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, but also strive to support parents’ confidence in feeling that they know their child best. This support increases the likelihood of success in meeting their child’s developmental and medical needs after discharge home.
No parent should have to experience the pain and devastation of losing an infant. Many NICU families incur the unexpected costs of funeral expenses, but not all of them have the necessary means to fulfill their financial obligations. We believe that every family should be able to properly memorialize their child.
